School Management Committees, mother groups and teacher counsellors have reaffirmed their commitment towards ensuring that schools around the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Kachere in Dedza district  are free from violence.

The participants made these remarks during a two-day orientation session on Gender Based Violence (GBV) prevention in schools which YONECO conducted in the area.

Among other things, participants bemoaned the tendency of some parents who frustrate their efforts during home visits to girls who drop out of school. The members of various community structures who attended the session also stated that the culture of silence is among the issues that need to be addressed if the fight against GBV is to be won in the area.

The activity was conducted in corroboration with the Malawi Police Service (Victim Support Unit) as well as Dedza District Education Office

A total of 20 participants from the area attended the orientation session that was conducted under a project called Action for Teen Mothers and Adolescent Girls which is being funded by UNFPA Malawi.
